Privacy notice

For the purposes of this information the term ‘Student’ will apply to any child, young person, or adult, who is being, or has been assessed, or in receipt of, or has had Tuition, either by me, or any other Specialist Teacher or Assessor, who might be engaged in the future to undertake work within the company.

The types of information we process include:

  • personal identifiers and contacts (such as name, DOB, contact details and address)
  • concerns raised on the family and, or school questionnaires, through conversations and consultations including, but not limited to any special educational needs and, or disabilities,
  • medical information relevant to our work (such as involvement of medical professionals, for example speech and language therapists, Occupational therapists’ counsellors etc.)
  • assessment and attainment data (such as Levels of ability, Literacy and numeracy)


Why we collect and use information:

We collect and use information from those we work with to inform our understanding of the student’s needs, and so we can provide relevant and informed advice.

Information gathering and sharing is an integral part of the assessment and review, provision; it helps to keep targets relevant and useful.

We will only become involved with a student (under the age of 18), when we have signed consent from the student’s parent, or other adult with parental responsibility.

How we collect information:
We collect student information from, both the parent and schools’, or adult questionnaire provided, when involvement is requested.

  • discussion and individual work with the student
  • the student’s parents/carers
  • school records
  • other involved professionals where relevant

How we store client and student information:
We hold student data securely for the duration of our time working with you and, or your child and for one year following cessation of support, unless you have requested otherwise. Assessment hard copies will be kept for 6 months, following cessation of support. All electronic data will be password protected, and hard copies will be double locked at all times, when I am not present.

Who we share student information with:
We only share student information with your permission. Information can be shared with:

  • the Head Teacher, Special Needs Co-ordinator, class teacher from your child’s school. Or with your consent any other member of staff who has requested information.
  • other relevant professionals, for example GP’s, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational therapists, Educational Psychologists and any other Therapist involved in your child’s education and support.


Why we share student information:

We share information, so that the student’s needs can be fully understood and addressed.
We do not share information about students with anyone without consent unless the law and our policies allow us to do so.

Requesting access to your personal information:
Under data protection legislation, parents and students have the right to request access to information about them that we hold. To make a request for your personal information or be given access to your child’s educational information please contact me via the website contact page.

Information is also gathered electronically through your use of the website:
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media:
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Who we share your data with:
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data:
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data:
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent:
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

You also have the right to:

  • Object to processing of personal data that is likely to cause, or is causing, damage or distress.
  • In certain circumstances, have inaccurate personal data rectified, blocked, erased or destroyed.
  • and a right to seek redress.
