Colette Pollock

Passionate about supporting people to be the best they can be

My name is Colette Pollock, and I am a holistic Teacher, who is a Specialist working with children, young people and adults, who have Specific Learning Difficulties, come under the Neurodiverse banner, or simply just need a little bit extra support.

I passionately, believe Education is the growth of the whole person and, Mental Health, Well Being and Meta Cognition are an integral part of my teaching.

I believe that with the right tools and strategies, we can work with our strengths to support our weaknesses, take control of our learning and, this provides the base from which we grow – no matter what age.

I am a Specialist Trained Dyslexia Teacher and Qualified Assessor, with 30 years’ experience working in a variety of educational establishments. My experience includes, assessing and teaching children and adults, as well as coordinating the support of children and young people with learning needs. I also hold a Certificate in ADHD Child Evaluation  (ACE) for purposes of screening and referral to GP’s and Independent Specialists.

I have led two Projects at HMYOI Feltham, assessing and teaching young offenders and modelling ‘ACE’ teaching lessons to their TA’s; I have run an Adult Literacy/Numeracy/Key skills group; taught in both State Primary and Secondary Schools, and most recently the Independent Sector.

For the last 5 years I was the SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator), at a local Independent Prep School. I headed up a department of 4 Specialist Dyslexia Teachers and coordinated the support of about 80 children, with a range of learning and support needs. I have worked together, with Teachers, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational and Behavioral Psychologists, and Clinical Child Psychiatrists, to ensure our pupils received the best support available.

I have experience in supporting people with Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Developmental Coordination Disorder (Dyspraxia) Attention Deficit (hyperactive) Disorder, Speech and Language Difficulties, Autistic Spectrum Continuum and Social Emotional Health difficulties.

I am passionate about supporting parents in their parenting journey; especially those who have children with additional needs, whether this is educational, behavioral, or pastoral. We are all unique and, even though we may have similar difficulties, the support we receive often needs to be a little different to fit in with our family circumstances, personalities and capabilities at the time.

From the years I have spent working in the world of SEND, I have gained a wealth of experience, and my hope is that I can help make yours, and your family’s life a little easier, giving you some strategies to move forward with confidence.
